A fresh coat of paint is one of the fastest ways to make a space look new again, and it’s one of the most popular DIY projects. But how do you determine which paint. Paint Worth the Price? Valspar, Duron, Behr, and Ralph Lauren Review. August 3. 1, 2. 01. But how do you determine which paint to buy? It seems that everyone has their own opinion on the best paint, and brand loyalties run deep. To provide some analysis, we’ve tested several of the top brands available to determine which paint provides the best coverage for the price. In each section, we’ll review coverage, price and availability. Editors note: This post originally ran in April, 2. Since that time we’ve received lots of comments, feedback and suggestions. In an effort to continue providing accurate information, we’ve updated this post, and retested new paint samples. We’ve also added a lot of pictures so you can see the results for yourself. Many of the comments may no longer be applicable after this update, but we’ve preserved them to incorporate reader insights. The Test. To accurately compare the paints, we needed to devise a balanced test that would be applicable in a real- life scenario. In that effort we setup a sheet of drywall and painted a deep red checkerboard pattern. Each paint was applied to a large section with a fresh roller and paint brush to see how well they covered. Pictures were taken with consistent lighting immediately after application and after allowing the paint to dry. Let’s see how they stack up! Valspar. We purchased Valspar Signature Interior Semi- gloss which is a paint and primer in one. Pajiba: Sweetened by Mock, Lightened by Droll. Here's an alphabetical listing of all our Film: 'A Little Chaos' Review: Alan Rickman And Kate Winslet Reunite For A.
This is an acrylic latex, interior paint designed for “ultimate hiding.” Valspar is a Lowe’s specific brand and is available nationwide at their retail locations and online. Click here for product details. Price: $1. 4. 9. 8 (quart), $3. Coverage: 1 gallon = 4. They kept the name, mostly for brand recognition according to one sales associate. Sherwin Williams stores can be found nationwide. For this test we used Sherwin Williams Super. Paint Interior Acrylic Latex. It’s another self- priming paint, and is available in over 1,5. Here’s the product page. Price: $1. 6. 4. 9 (quart), $4. Coverage: 1 gallon = 3. At the time of this writing, a gallon of paint is on sale for $3. Sherwin Williams store locator. You almost can’t detect the red squares after one coat. The square is barely perceptible. The brushed paint yielded similar results. Behr. Behr is Home Depot brand paint and has their own paint with primer offering called Behr Premium Plus Ultra. This acrylic latex paint has the added benefit of having low volatile organic compounds (VOC). This paint is available in 3. Behr colors. Behr paint can be found in any Home Depot store and online. Price: $1. 4. 4. 8 (quart), $3. Lowe’s. Coverage: 1 gallon = 4. We did not include them in our updated test for the simple reason that the closest store is located about an hour away. We can confirm that right now Ralph Lauren does not make a self- priming paint. For the sake of comparison, we pulled information for a generic interior acrylic latex paint. The Verdict. So what paint do you think is worth the cost? None of our test samples proved to be one- coat- wonders, but we didn’t expect any of them to completely conceal the dark red paint. If you couldn’t tell from the individual photographs, Duron / Sherwin Williams was the clear winner. No matter if you roll or brush the paint, we found similar results. Here are some final pictures if you’re not convinced. Click to enlarge. Paint Disposal. Many people don’t realize all the different ways to get rid of old paint. Old paint can be donated, recycled, or taken to a paint disposal center. For more complete information about disposal your old paint, check out the link above. What do you think? Do you agree with the pros and cons? What’s your experience been? What brand would you recommend? Editor’s note: Valspar paint is offered exclusively at Lowes and before you head out the door, grab a free Lowes Coupon. The same is true of Behr and Home Depot so pickup a Home Depot coupon too. We keep a couple great coupon pages and that one allows you to sign up for 1. Titanic Paint and Color Reference. Titanic Paint and Color. Referenceby Art Braunschweiger. TRMA Titanic. A review of the series finale, “Tell Him Something Pretty,” coming up just as soon as I ask for unguent by secret thinking. I reviewed that episode, like I reviewed most of that final season, on my old blog, and at the time felt frustrated with “Tell Him Something Pretty” as an end to the third season, but surprisingly effective as an abrupt end to the series as a whole. Of course, in the years since, Milch has told me that he more or less knew the show wouldn’t be back, and that as a result he wrote this episode – and the final scene that provides its title – as the closest he could get to a conclusion. And Al scrubbing Jen’s blood from the floor of his office, lying to Johnny about the manner of her death, does feel like the most appropriate end – premature or otherwise – “Deadwood” could have had: one more lie agreed on, one more piece of violence being wiped away on the path to civilization, one more victory of money and power over decency and fairness. It doesn’t take us to the rest of the story of Deadwood and George Hearst, doesn’t get into the role Jack Langrishe would play in the community going forward, doesn’t get us to the fire that claimed the Gem, Sol Star’s political career, Seth’s friendship with Teddy Roosevelt or anything else that could have come later. It ends before we want it to, before Milch intended to, but it ends. Now, endings have not been a strong suit of Milch’s throughout his career. He’s a genius with dialogue, with character, with introductions, but clear, powerful, appropriate resolutions often elude him. That the first two seasons of “Deadwood” ended as well as they did (the second more than the first) is something of an anomaly in his career, and even in this show, where the improvisational nature of the writing meant that some story arcs got interesting conclusions and many others just petered out, as we discussed with the Earp brothers a few weeks back. So the idea that all the talk of war with Hearst – of Hawkeye and Wu raising separate armies, of skirmishes with the Pinkertons – amounted to little doesn’t seem out of keeping with his style, and it ultimately fits with the story of this season. Earl Brown’s theory, may have been influenced by what was going on between Milch and HBO at the time.) Hearst wins. His victory is as close to absolute as it gets. He buys up Alma’s gold claim. He rigs the elections so Bullock will lose (though because mayor is not a county position like sheriff, he has no power to stop Sol’s victory). He boasts of starting his own newspaper to crush the Pioneer (though this is more of a nod to Hearst’s media mogul – and “Citizen Kane” inspiration – son William Randolph Hearst, George did buy a few newspapers along the way). He demands the murder of the blonde whore who shot at him as a final sacrifice to spare the town, and though Swearengen ultimately kills a different one, it doesn’t much matter. Hearst is more powerful than these people he loathes dealing with – Hearst telling Seth that “I’m having a conversation you cannot hear” is about the most arrogant line spoken in the run of the show – and he crushes everyone under his boot heel before riding away on the stagecoach, riding shotgun so he can again have an elevated view of the little people. That absolute victory is depressing, especially for what was so often the most hopeful of the three great HBO dramas of the period, but it also feels like a proper conclusion. Seth and Al, for different reasons and by different means, have been trying to civilize the camp for three seasons. With the elections, they have essentially succeeded. The camp will be absorbed into the Dakotas, and in turn into the greater United States of America. And while civilization offers wonderful things, it also offers men like George Hearst, or Hugo Jarry – money men and politicians who take advantage of the rules of polite society (or who are powerful enough to decide those rules do not apply to them) to take advantage of others. And though Wu and Hawkeye’s armies don’t get to do anything but stand and look tough (especially the short guy with the knife who makes for the “almost 1. Al plots to murder poor Jen in Trixie’s place. It’s a dark, interesting choice – and one that gives Al some of his menace back after he’s become an almost- grandfatherly figure over the last couple of seasons (even the murder of the Pinkerton doesn’t make us question our feelings about Al) – and we can understand both Al and Sol’s desires to protect Trixie at all costs. And the way the story is structured, Al sells it to Mr. Star as a done deal that Sol cannot prevent, even though Jen is still milling about elsewhere in the Gem. It doesn’t entirely sit right, both because Jen is such a nothing character (and therefore the sacrifice only matters in the abstract, and to the extent that Sean Bridgers makes us care about Johnny’s feelings for her in the sad, beautiful scene where he discusses all the creatures inside the wall), and because Seth – who has been defined as much by his rigid sense of right and wrong as by his uncontrollable temper – also just goes along with it. But the sequence where Hearst and his minions take over the Gem to verify the death is a marvel of suspense. Because Hearst wins in a walk, and because the murder of Jen takes place off- camera, the most memorable bit of violence in the hour is Cy stabbing Leon, venting his frustration once again at being so marginalized by the rest of the camp, and even by Hearst. But even with all that said, it was such a pleasure to watch this final episode again – and an experience that took me much longer than an hour, because I kept pausing between scenes to stretch out the experience as much as I could. I knew when we got to the perfect closing shot of Al Swearengen scrubbing out one last stain, having just told one last lie, this was all going to be over. No more Swidgin. No more Bullock and Star. No more Mrs. No more Trixie or Jewel or Dan or Johnny or Charlie or Joanie or Jane. No more gorgeous language being recited by one of the finest collections of actors ever assembled for television, nearly all of them at the top of their game. No more triangulating. No more conversations with severed Indian heads, dogs or overworked prostitutes. And I don’t want it to be done. I want there to have been a fourth season, and perhaps a fifth (I only remember the talk of four seasons beginning around the time the show’s future looked in jeopardy), or else the movies. I want the laws of time and space, and the complexities of show business, to all bend in such a way that we can grab Olyphant, Mc. Shane, Parker and everyone else circa 2. Milch and company write new words for them to say, and have at it. I want to be able to tell you something pretty. But I can’t. This is where “Deadwood” ends. It’s abrupt. It’s unhappy. But it does not ultimately feel untrue to the spirit of the thing. Some other thoughts: * For the final time, I want to thank Jim Beaver, Keone Young, W. Jim’s recollection last week of the filming of Ellsworth’s death is extraordinary, and Keone’s reflection of the turmoil he felt while making this show was just as moving. He finally weighed in on this one, writing: I sure don’t have the detailed memories Earl, Jim and Keone have. Either I’m mental or I was too busy trying to stay in production step with Milch’s unorthodox style (or both), but I do remember two things about the last episode. One was the whole production felt like dead man walking. There was a real sense of a ticking clock — sets were starting to be dismantled, set decoration was coming down, props packed away and offices were starting to be boxed up. Kind of the feeling you get when you’re sensing a finality to your time in high school or college ending. It was very bittersweet. The other thing was the very last day was when I shot that sequence in the roof where Cy stabs Leon. It was windy and chilly on that practical rooftop and I think we had a somewhat abbreviated crew that day. Also, I think some people may have already left for other jobs. It was a real Twilight Zone kind of day and I was reminded of the ending of T. S. Eliot’s “The Hollow Men” because our world at Deadwood ended like the poem — “not with a bang but a whimper.”. OK, I haven’t quoted some obscure Scottish poet like Milch used to but WTF? Syracuse, dude! Every now and then, though, Milch gave him a moment suggesting the kind of talent he’s been displaying in the years since, like the scene here where an angry, tearful Sol shoves Trixie out of his house, upset at the thought that she’d rather die than live with him. It’s a great scene for Paula Malcomson, as well (and a reminder of how “Ray Donovan” is wasting her), and also helps us understand Sol’s mindset about Jen; beyond thinking it was already a done deed, he’s too wrapped up in knots over Trixie to think rationally about a situation where her life is in danger. Other characters were well- serviced even without major stories of their own, like the way Charlie Utter spends election day standing up to Hearst and his Pinkerton bullies. A pleasure to watch Dayton Callie threaten other, far more powerful men, and the later scene where Joanie and Jane discuss how good Charlie is in a crisis put a nice button on the long- standing Charlie/Jane friendship. Still, he’s doing a damn sight better than Steve. On the one hand, Michael Harney would have kept collecting paychecks; on the other, as Jim Beaver noted a few reviews back, it would have been a non- acting job at that point, more or less. Up next: Again, that’s all, folks. We have many months to go before next summer, and I’m not sure what my summer project will be – or if there will be one, given the explosion of interesting viewing options this summer. In the ensuing firefight, many of Duke and Ripcord's teammates are killed or severely wounded, and both of their AH- 6. Apache gunships are destroyed, along with all of their ground vehicles. Before Duke and Ripcord meet a similar fate, they are rescued by Scarlett, Snake- Eyes and Heavy Duty. They take the warheads to General Hawk, head of the G. I. Joe Team, at their headquarters, The Pit (Movie), in Egypt. Mc. Cullen plans on using the warheads to cause a panic, causing the world to turn to the President of the United States for guidance. Using a tracking device, Mc. Cullen locates the G. I. Joe base and sends Storm Shadow, the Baroness and Zartan with the enhanced Neo- Vipers to retrieve the warheads. After a fight, Storm Shadow and the Baroness retrieve the warheads and take them to Baron De. Cobray, the Baroness's husband, for him to weaponize. After which, Baron De. Cobray is murdered by Storm Shadow under orders from Mc. Cullen if he touched the Baroness again. They then plan to attack the Eiffel Tower. The nanomites eat through part of the tower before Duke hits the kill switch, but in doing so he is captured and taken to Mc. Cullen's base under the Arctic Circle, while the rest of the Joes are arrested by French authorities, believing them to be the ones who damaged the Eiffel Tower. He was disfigured in a blast which Duke and the Baroness believed killed him. The Baroness tries to free Duke but the Doctor reveals he has implanted her with nanomites. Duke and the Baroness pursue him while Scarlett, Heavy Duty and Snake- Eyes attempt to stop the missiles and shut down the Arctic base. Ripcord takes off in a prototype jet, and destroys the second missile before it reaches Moscow. In destroying the third warhead, he has to take it to the atmosphere. He ejects and lands in Washington DC, where he is arrested by the Secret Service because of his earlier piloting to stop the nanomites. They are soon captured by G. I. From Babadook to Busan, Patrick Stewart to Pan's Labyrinth, just what are Rotten Tomatoes' highest-rated horror films of the 21st century? Memorable Horror Movies by Non- Horror Directors! When it comes to horror, there are a number of talented filmmakers that call the genre home. There’s a developed instinct to bristle at an outsider’s new association with horror, stemming from decades of horror being overlooked. At least not without the crutch of comedy. Yet his new film Get Out is currently sitting at a whopping 1. Rotten Tomatoes based on 7. The truth is, as with all genre of film, fresh perspectives are important. Horror is full of amazing films that happened to be directed by filmmakers that stepped outside of their comfort zone for once, and here are 1. The Exorcist. The seminal possession film to end all possession films is a no- brainer for any horror list with “memorable” in the title, right? Someone with more experience, or film school training, perhaps? Science Fiction Films: Books in the UC Berkeley Library. Horror Films are unsettling films designed to frighten and panic, cause dread and alarm, and to invoke our hidden worst fears, often in a terrifying, shocking finale. The Underworld movies offer something supremely enticing to horror fans, namely the chance to see vampires and werewolves at war with one another. It took a while for him to come to terms that it’s considered as such. Yet the realism that he brought from his work on documentaries made Regan’s plight all the more believable. The white faced demon seen throughout the film, though first in Father Karras’ dream sequence, was an outtake from makeup tests. Friedkin was inspired by subliminal editing in a Holocaust documentary and included it last- minute. When most other directors would have taken an artistic or cutaway approach to Regan’s possession, Friedkin remained unflinching in its examination. His stark, honest direction combined with the innovative special effects firmly landed his film into horror, even if he doesn’t think so. The Omen. Director Richard Donner is known for his popular action films, but his break- through film was actually one of the best horror films ever made. He had screenwriter David Seltzer remove all supernatural elements, like witches and demons, making it a request that nothing happen in the script that couldn’t happen in real life. It turned out to be a mutual feeling, as Rob Reiner had wanted to make a Stephen King movie after watching The Shining. It’s a terrifying, hallucinatory trip of paranoia with a lot of depth, bringing the audience to the brink of madness alongside Tim Robbin’s Jacob. Influenced by the art of William Blake, Francis Bacon, and H. R. Giger, Lyne wanted more human- like, yet bizarre images for the film’s demons, overriding the original screenplay’s more biblical descriptions of them. Lyne fought hard to retain both his vision and the screenplay’s integrity; Paramount dropped the project when he wouldn’t change the ending. Yet, despite audiences’ initial rejection of the film, Ravenous has long since developed a rabid cult following. Both Boyle and Garland developed the idea further, forgoing the traditional idea that zombies ate brains, and altered the foundation of their zombie mythology to be more reflective of modern times. Yet it wasn’t just the viral nature of his zombies that made this film memorable, but his frenetic camera work, characters you actually empathized with, and the even scarier villain in the form of humanity. The Host. Before directing the highest grossing South Korean genre film thus far, Bong Joon- ho had only tested his horror mettle in short format. Drawing inspiration from an actual event in which the U. S. The director sees it more of a kidnapping movie than a horror film, but this genre- bender is a worthy horror entry nonetheless. Let the Right One In. This antithesis to American young adult vampire romances, Tomas Alfredson’s adaptation of John Ajvide Lindqvist’s novel blends its romance with equal parts horror and tragedy. The story centers around 1. The word “vampire” is only mentioned once in the film. Alfredson may not have a deep affinity for horror or vampires, but by narrowing in on the heart wrenching nature of loneliness and bullying, he created a memorably stunning tale of vampiric friendship. His film not only spawned an American remake that followed almost immediately, but an American stage play as well. Creep. Known more for his comedic work in film and television, Mark Duplass developed the story for this found footage terror based on a series of conversations with director and co- star Patrick Brice. The complete improvisation of the film not only gives them film a sense of genuineness, but the awkward nature of certain scenes certainly makes the film live up to its title. Both of whom seemed to have fallen into the horror aspect of this film, soon to become a trilogy. Lucky for us, it was a happy accident that proved the found footage sub- genre still has some life left. Win. X DVD Ripper Software- Fast DVD Ripper & Video Converter, Rip DVD to MP4 H2. AVI i.
